Border Crossing
We have had a lot of inquiries about border crossing issues and we would like to outline the information we have.
Proof of Citizenship
- A drivers license is not considered proof of citizenship.
- A passport or birth certificate is considered proof of citizenship.
- The requirements for entry into Canada are exactly the same as the requirements guests have to meet to re-enter the US when they go home. Although driver’s licenses may have been accepted at some border crossings in the past, they have never been an acceptable proof of citizenship.
By far the best advice for anyone who travels between the US and Canada is to obtain a passport. It is considered the most secure form of identification, and will definitively help minimize problems at the border. Until the new requirements come into effect, photo ID plus proof of citizenship is still acceptable.
DUI’s or Other Offenses
Temporary Resident Permits are available and will allow entry into Canada for a period of one or two years. This may take up to six months to process. This is only available on a one time basis. Before this permit expires, you must apply for Rehabilitation. This is permanent approval of admissibility to Canada. It never has to be renewed. It may take up to 1 year to process this application.

- Leeches
- Worms unless they are packed in newspaper bedding
- Some wild meat
